Halloween Specials: Old-School Style

Is there anything more nostalgic than old-school holiday television specials?  I remember waiting not-so-patiently each year to see all the holiday classics.  My husband and I haven’t seen them in years and I decided to remedy that last night.  I hopped on to the bed next to my ailing hubby, who was sick all weekend, and queued up the Charlie Brown and Fat Albert Halloween specials on YouTube.

We were glued to the diminutive iPhone screen, reliving some of the best moments of our childhoods.  I never realized how much adult humor and references are in cartoons–stuff that I was oblivious to as a kid.

Even though it’s not technically book related, be sure to catch a Halloween special or two before the big day on Saturday.

I have recorded like 25 movies so far for Halloween so I can indulge the rest of the week. I was watching “Hocus Pocus” yesterday thinking about “Double, Double Toil and Trouble” with the Olsen Twins 🙂 Charlie Brown is on tomorrow night 🙂

Oh my goodness — “It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” is on ABC tonight at 8 p.m.! My sister and I squealed when we saw a preview for it the other day. It’s just not the fall without these show traditions! I love that you found them on YouTube… good thinking!

I saw a commercial for It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown and they had Charlie Brown rapping in it. That is so not right. That special always brings back fond memories for me.

My DVR is set to record It’s a Great Pumpkin, which is on tonight! We own it on VHS but never got around to getting it on DVD.

Those are some sweet Halloween memories there for me, all in their old school glory. The best thing about holidays now, being a parent, is introducing my kids to all this great stuff. Bring on the Great Pumpkin and Fat Albert.
